Although the killing seemed wanton at amandamath, but I do not consider myself fit to pass that judgement.
Solute and respect to this novel What a novel. The rebels blockade the bridge over the nearby river, but they lack any artillery or military training. The passion in the people depicted in the book is quite relatable to one exhibited during the freedom struggle.

Kalyani wants to help him in attaining his dreams by trying to kill herself, thereby relieving him of worldly duties. Also, in this book Vande Mataram was first published. The Sannyasis’ undisciplined army, lacking military experience, chases the British into the trap.

In this book, Bankim babu has nicely pictured the glimpses of the then Bengali society. Definitely poetic, but also with rather dense with descriptions of Hindu religious life. Anandamathh message to fight British is novwl as the author had to get the books through the British censor. The introduction was a tough read, a very rigorous study of the text, but it was definitely helpful in understanding the importance of the novel.
