You serpiiente I would die for our country. But she’s definitely an author I’m always telling people to try out, especially if they like historical fiction.
I really did enjoy this book. Henry despised her and had an old woman, Daiane de Poitiers, as his mistress.

View all 6 comments. Henry 2 did not love Catherine but she loved him and she was jealous of his attentions to Diane.
It showed viewpoints that didn’t feel necessary and could’ve been cut out entirely; I would’ve preferred if the entire thing were from Catherine’s perspective alone. Oh well, it’s not important. I have no intention on finishing the series, jfan though I won’t find out about the revenge taken view spoiler [on Diane hide spoiler ]I won’t consider it much of a loss regardless of my curiosity. She is a fascinating and tragic figure. Poor Catherine absolutely loved and adored her husband Henry.
It’s probably not fair to be nitpicky about historical accuracy.
Madame Serpiente (Spanish, Paperback)
Henry at 14 is handsome but does not take much interest in his Ital I really did enjoy this book. Dauphine de Medici’s sentiments sour and she becomes bitter about her life, turning to scheming and plotting her own revenge, for herself and Italy. Catherine has learned throughout her life how to hide her feelings and do her best to sway situations to her advantage. She is an incredible author; her attention to detail, her descriptions of the French monarchy and courts give you the feeling of being present in the time and place she is describing.

This was my first Plaidy book and I enjoyed it. It is only when Henry shows her minimal affection to ensure she brings forth an heir that the Dauphine de Medici can rest easier.
Just looking at my goodreads stats gives you an idea how much since I’ve read 17 books by her since compared to my second most read author at Also Anne, I wanted madake hate, but she made such a good villain to Catherine. While it did not pull me in, many others have surely taken to you. She had Henry wrapped around her little finger, and Catherine could do nothing about it. I can also feel Catherine’s pain.
She was a pawn, but she used that to her advantage. King Francis did die after drinking from a cup and it did pave the way for Catherine to rule through young Charles and ship would be rival, Mary, back to Scotland. Unfortunately, all of Henry’s love went to his mistress Diane de Poitiers.
She is sent to France to marry a prince she does not love, torn away from her first love.
It flowed and keeps you engaged the entire time. Daiane was an jewn person and manipulated Henry all the time! A sympathetic and well written account of Catherine de Medici’s first years at the French court and her rise to power as queen of France and following her husband’s death as the country’s most powerful woman.
I also didn’t like when Catherine’s thoughts blended in with the narration, as I had more than enough of her as it was – I didn’t need everything painted with her beliefs – and it felt awkward that the two weren’t properly separated.
The dialog is a bit stilted, but works great for Catherine.
