BV is only necessary if the simulation exceeds the reverse breakdown voltage of the diode, as is the case for zener diodes.

It probably is better to use the lowest Vf than go for the lowest capacity. It seems what was available previously does not seem so prevalent now, is it just down to cost, or have improvements in Si components caused the death of Ge types?
