To be a really functional tool for drawing practice at least some of the plates should have been cleaned up, printed separately as loose pages, and available full size.

It bargye off with teaching the ability to judge lines and proportions, then moves onto cast studies, and finally the copying of masterworks. Bargue was a superb draughtsman, it fairly drips off the pages, with plate after plate of beautifully realised drawings.
Some people talk about spending 50 hours getting one drawing right. Charlees three series of plates are in here, clear, absolutely stunning. If you plan to do the Bargue Drawing Course, you need to buy the book.
It is worth it, however, because the level of detail is much higher than laser copies.

I am sure there are many people that will argue with the efficacy of directly copying master drawings of figures and sculptures, but in my personal experience it has proven to be an excellent way to teach a beginner, as well as hone an accomplished artist’s skills.
