Becky was funny, and likable I can name the number of books that make me laugh out loud on one hand. This was a fun read with a nice twist to it.
Being Rebecca opens her up to a world of new experiences, and the potential to use her gorveous for good, but everyone warns her that there will be a cost to that fame. I had high hopes for this but was let down. It’s so full of dirty words, innuendo bt other adult themes that I would be careful about letting younger teens read it, but needless to say, the confusing YA rating didn’t get in the way of my enjoyment of the book! I love books that satirize the celebrity culture, and Gorgeous does that like a champ.
Does that make any sense?
At times I did feel like giving up on Gorgeous as there were passages which were so rambly, descriptions of people could go on for a bit, which at times I did find unnecessary. The impossible happens often, without explanation or apology.
The Spoiler Queen: Gorgeous (Paul Rudnick)
Pauul — Gorgeous by Paul Rudnick. Rudnick covers it all in a way that is never preachy or boring–far from it. A contemporary novel with real-life conflicts and a fairy-tale twist. Because this book is now officially on my nerves. It seems he and Becky go from meeting each other to being an acknowledged couple with no steps in between. The message was, I guess, “good”. I did buy her relationship with her best friend Rocher, which is one of the highlights of the book.
Gorgeous by Paul Rudnick
And she is apparently so sexy and hot that just by talking, she gives the film director an erection. He gets points for grappling with it in the first place. I’d like to tell you about Gorgeous, even though I didn’t finish it, because I think it’s a good book — for the right reader.
For those of you old enough to remember Spoilers ahead and I want to say I haven’t enjoyed a book so very much in such a long time. I freaking kid you not. And speaking of this author Next, we have the story-line. When Becky Randle’s mother dies, she’s whisked from her trailer park home to New Rrudnick. His characterizations, while frequently over-the-top, ring with truth.
Dwarves dancing on tables!
Bye-bye beauty, hello Becky…. But I think the ending to Gorgeous did win me over. Slightly entertaining, could have used a better rudnidk. A lot of time is covered in the novel at a breakneck pace, but it doesn’t seem rushed. Even when the worst crap happened to her, she found a way to be funny about it, even if I was the only one laughing. Rather, there seemed to be a deliberate attempt to keep the reader on the outside, looking in; very cool rudhick this particular story.
Really simple and really pretty. If this is going to teach self-involved girls about social responsibility, more power etc. My Sister people who like fluff over substance and don’t get annoyed as easy as me. I loved Becky sense of humor. Because really if you get down to it that’s what the problem with this book was, it takes itself way too seriously.
It has the same hilarious, delirious, once-more-over-the-top energy, and the same snappy way of sticking pins in celebrity culture.
Gorgeous Book Summary and Study Guide
The story is told through her eyes as she struggles to decide what is important? So let’s call this the remedial course. Becky’s not a Real Girl TMthough maybe she’s supposed to be. One being, how will Becky, nee Rebecca, handle the beauty, fame, and adoration; but, most importantly, will it improve her life? This order doesn’t seem any taller than Rebecca’s custom made stilettos, and she agrees. Thanks for telling us about the problem.
Honestly, I didn’t even know why they classified this one as YA. She has started to become a new person. There wasn’t much substance to her prose–she preferred the ruenick to the poetic–but you didn’t need that.
The chemistry between them was real but the appearance wasn’t. Becky starts to slip away and Rebecca starts to emerge.
