AstroPlay Installed summer Lighting George Mihalik s thoughts on different aspects of the upcoming season: We are very, very proud of that accomplishment because of the quality of the teams in the PSAC.

To be able to say that we lead this group of teams in this category is really saying something. The reason for our string of success is very simple to explain: Our coaching staff has been stable we have eight men who have been together on the same staff for eight or more seasons and are excellent people as well as coaches.

But you also can t overlook the importance of the great young men who have played in this program, believed in this staff and the philosophy of our program We refuse to lose and been willing to do what we have asked of them. It s a mentality, an attitude and a belief that The Rock will win.

Overall expectations for season: We always have high expectations as we approach the season. That is our approach year in and year out because our philosophy is, if you set your goals low, you are only going to achieve those low goals.

Some seasons, at least on paper, the opportunity to reach the lofty goals we set for ourselves appears better than in other seasons. We feel that, this year, the opportunity to achieve those expectations is very real. It should be an exciting and very interesting fall.

I don t think there is a clear-cut favorite. We respect all of our foes, but fear none of them. We have a schedule that will challenge us. Then home against a Gannon program that is on the rise, at Fairmont State, which year-in and year-out is among the best teams in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and home against Bloomsburg, which has been in the NCAA playoffs two of the last three years, played for the national championship in and has won four successive PSAC-East titles.

And, then we get to the meat of the schedule. Every year, our division games are dogfights, and this year will be no different.

straehle swim meet 2012 nfl

We pride ourselves on playing one of the toughest schedules in the region, if not the nation, and this year s schedule certainly meets that requirement. Keys to the season: The better you are able to do that, the better your chances of having a championship season. We also know that we have a couple of key positions that have to come through for us to be as successful as we feel we can be this fall.

Therefore, it will be important that our front seven on defense and our offensive line the anticipated strengths of our team this fall play well early to allow our defensive secondary and quarterback position to mature and gain confidence.

Can a team win championships if one of the pieces to the puzzle are missing? No, championship seasons come when all three phases of the game offense, defense and special teams perform at the peak level.

I think our last two seasons have proven that. Each of the last two seasons, one of the pieces in our offense has been lackluster the passing game in and the running game in Despite that, we have still produced winning seasons. That s a credit to the team concept we believe in here at The Rock; that means our defense and special teams have been strong and consistent. This will be the third straight season in which a new starting quarterback will take the opening snap.

Obviously, this is not a good situation to be in because it doesn t do much for continuity and stability of an offense. That s the downside. The upside is, with young redshirted freshmen vying for the job, we have the prospect of a stable situation for the next three seasons.

The fact that our strengths this fall should be the defensive and offensive lines will help take a lot of the pressure off our young quarterbacks.
